To the Editor:
I join Don Thomas, chief of police in Sycamore (retired) and the Sycamore Fraternal Order of Police in supporting Rick Amato for DeKalb County state’s attorney.
I worked with Rick when we were both assistant state’s attorneys in the DeKalb County office. He consistently demonstrated that he was an excellent prosecutor, who was fair, had an in-depth knowledge of criminal law, always took time to collect all the facts, never rushed to judgment, and had excellent relationships with his co-workers, police, victims and fellow attorneys.
While serving as an assistant state’s attorney, Rick prosecuted thousands of cases and conducted hundreds of motions, trials and jury trials. His wife, who is a longtime resident of our community , was the victim/witness assistant in the state’s attorney’s office for more than 6 years.
His experience building the largest criminal defense firm in the area has given him a proven track record for managing a substantial number of people (secretarial staff and attorneys).
I believe that Republican candidate Rick Amato has demonstrated that he has the qualities to be a successful state’s attorney who can be counted on to be a strong protector of our community and will be dedicated to helping the victims of crime.
