Timberwolves drop heartbreaker to defending champs

NORMAL – The Indian Creek girls basketball team didn't trail until the fourth quarter, but in the end, the defending state champs proved too much.

The Timberwolves lost, 34-31, to Central A&M in a Class A State Semifinal at Redbird Arena on Friday.

The Timberwolves (31-2) led by as much as 17-6 in the first half, but the Raiders (32-1) dominated the third quarter.

In the fourth, Indian Creek tied the game at 31-all with 53.5 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Madison Russell, but didn't score again.

The TImberwolves will play in the third-place game at 12:15 Saturday, with the championship game to follow.
