GENOA – Drivers will start paying to exit Interstate 90 to reach Belvidere and Genoa later this month.
Tolls will be collected at the Genoa Road exit off I-90 beginning Sept. 14. as the $16 million Genoa Road Interchange project comes to a close.
Toll plazas will provide an I-Pass or Pay Online lane and a coin machine. Cars exiting from eastbound I-90 will pay $1.10. Drivers exiting from the westbound lanes will pay $1.50. Drivers with I-Pass are charged half those rates. About 8,800 vehicles exit the tollway at Genoa Road daily, according to the Illinois Tollway reports.
Truck rates will range from $1.65 to $5.60, with overnight discounts offered.
The project was coordinated with Boone County, the city of Belvidere, Spring and Flora townships, the Illinois Department of Transportation and local municipalities, police and fire departments.
The tollway’s 15-year, $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future, funded the project.
