Police: Two men with weapon robbed NIU student

DeKALB – Northern Illinois University police are investigating an off-campus armed robbery in which a laptop and cash were stolen from a student.

An NIU student told police he was robbed about 9:25 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Varsity Boulevard, near North Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb, according to an NIU safety bulletin.

The victim reported to police that two African-American men threatened him with a silver weapon and took a backpack that contained a laptop and about $60 in cash, the safety bulletin states. The men, described as wearing black hoodies and gold Timberland shoes, fled the scene north on Pappas Drive toward the 7-Eleven at 930 N. Annie Glidden Road, according to the bulletin. One was taller than the other.

Police are asking the community to report any suspicious behavior directly to the NIU police at 815-753-1212 or anonymously at 815-753-8477.
