Dawn I. Pinion, 47, of Maple Park, was charged Friday with theft.

CORTLAND – A 47-year-old Maple Park woman is accused of stealing money from the Dollar General in Cortland while she was an employee there, authorities said.

Dawn I. Pinion, of the 18300 block of Hinckley Road, surrendered to police Friday and is charged with felony theft.

Cortland police requested help from DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies in early August in connection with the investigation, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Detectives worked with Dollar General’s loss prevention department to identify Pinion as stealing from store sales, the release states.

Pinion has since turned herself in, posted bond and was released, police said. If convicted, she could face probation or between two and five years in prison.

She is next due in court Sept. 26.
