EAST DUNDEE – The grandson of an 85-year-old woman found stabbed to death in her home in the northern Illinois village of East Dundee has been charged in her death.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1tDOZ5w) 41-year-old Richard Schmelzer was taken into custody Monday in Frisco, Texas. He is awaiting extradition in Denton County, Texas.

Schmelzer is charged with two counts of murder in the death of Mildred "Dodie" Darrington, who was found in her home July 18. East Dundee Police Chief Terry Mee has not given a motive for the woman's murder.

Mee said authorities were aware of Schmelzer's whereabouts for three days, but waited to make the arrest because they did not want to storm the house where he lived and endanger Schmelzer's four daughters living with him.
