CHICAGO – Chicago police officials say officers have shot and killed two people in separate incidents.

Police say the first shooting happened around 7:10 p.m. Sunday after officers responded to reports of armed men in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. They say officers approached two men who matched the descriptions and one fled through a gangway.

Authorities say that man took a gun from his waistband and pointed it at an officer, who shot him. The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The second happened around 9:10 p.m. after officers investigating gunfire told a man to drop a weapon. Authorities say the man was shot after he pointed a semi-automatic handgun at police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both shootings are being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority.
