John Adler, 42, of the 100 block of Cobblestone Court in DeKalb, pleaded guilty Tuesday to public indecency.

SYCAMORE – A 42-year-old DeKalb man will have to register as a sex offender after he was sentenced to probation Tuesday as part of a plea deal.

John Adler, of the 100 block of Cobblestone Court, pleaded guilty Tuesday to public indecency in exchange for prosecutors dropping three other counts of public indecency as well as a charge of child abduction. Associate Judge John McAdams sentenced Adler to 2 ½ years of probation.

Adler was accused in 2012 of committing lewd acts while in his car at the Wal-Mart, Kohl’s and Target parking lots, according to court records. During the police investigation, Adler was additionally accused of luring an 11-year old girl into his home and asking if she wanted to do gardening work for him, court records show.

Adler has three other convictions for public indecency, according to court records. He will be placed on GPS monitoring for six months as part of his sentence.
