Published: Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

Chicago comedy powerhouse The Second City is opening up its vaults to celebrate 55 years of laughter. The NIU Convocation Center will welcome The Second City’s 55th Anniversary Tour at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3.

The superstars of tomorrow will present the legendary theater’s “best-of-the-best,” created by some of the biggest names in the business, in this fusion of Second City’s hysterical history, the comically cutting-edge future and world-famous improv.

Many of comedy’s biggest names have hit the road with The Second City Touring Company, including Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, Jason Sudeikis, “Key & Peele’s” Keegan-Michael Key and “Saturday Night Live’s” current “Weekend Update” co-anchor, Cecily Strong.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday and range in cost from $25 to $45. They can be purchased at the Convocation Center box office, all Ticketmaster Outlets, Ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 800-745-3000. NIU students get a $10 discount on tickets with a valid NIU OneCard at the Convocation Center box office. Limit two per OneCard.

The Convocation Center box office is located at 1525 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb.
