Bethlehem women plan Fall Salad Supper

Bethlehem Lutheran Church invites women in the area to attend the annual Women’s Fall Salad Supper at 6 p.m. Sept. 2.

Women are requested to bring a salad to share. Table service, beverage and dessert will be provided. There is no charge for the event. Women planning to attend the supper need to contact the church office by Aug. 28 to reserve a seat. Call 815-758-3203 or email belcdekalb@comcast.net.

A program titled “Women’s Lives in Tanzania” will follow the supper at 7 p.m. featuring Mary Okeyo, a Northern Illinois University graduate student. Men and children are welcome to come for the program without reservations.

Okeyo is married with two sons, Edward, 7, and Edwin, 5. She and her husband, John, also have Augustine, 8, their nephew to look after. She plans to help women in Mara, Tanzania, to be healthy and safe. Women in Tanzania are not treated well at times, but they do not know they have choices.

Okeyo’s goal is to arrange seminars and workshops to encourage and teach women and girls that they can make their life better. There is a saying in Tanzania – “to educate a girl is to educate the whole nation” – however, girls need help to make a future life.
