DeKALB – DeKalb Police Department and Illinois Department of Natural Resources are sponsoring a 10-hour hunter safety education training course next month.

The free class will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 11, 16 and 18 at the DeKalb Police Department, 700 W. Lincoln Highway. Attendance is mandatory for all three sessions, according to a department news release.

Course instruction includes firearms safety, wildlife management, first aid and basic archery, with an overall emphasis on gun safety, the news release states.

State law mandates that any person born on or after Jan. 1, 1980, complete the course before they receive their first hunting license.
