DeKALB – Mike Woltmann, the general manager of Illini Farms in Kingston, will speak about the impacts of ongoing advancements in agricultural science on helping farmers raise better food while using fewer natural resources.

Woltmann will deliver his Farming and Food speech at 6 p.m. Monday during the DeKalb Kiwanis Club meeting at the Elks Club building, 209 S. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb.

Woltmann said in a news release that modern barns and a focus on nutrition and animal care mean pigs have healthier lives, leading to healthier food. Farmers now use 41 percent less water and 78 percent less land to raise pigs than they did 50 years ago, according to the news release.
