Sycamore High School band students had the chance to watch the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps rehearse and learn new techniques from the corps.

The Sycamore High School Band had the chance to interact with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps when it was in the area to perform at the DCI Drum and Bugle Corps show at Northern Illinois University in July.

The Sycamore Music Boosters made it possible to host the Blue Devils at the high school by providing funds and support during their visit. Students and parents were invited to observe the Blue Devils rehearsal on the SHS practice field, and students were invited to participate in an educational clinic and play music with the drum corps.

“This was a great experience and opportunity for the band students to witness a top-level marching band rehearse, as well as having the opportunity to play with them during rehearsal,” band director Ken Goodman said in a news release.

Ken Tonaki, SHS orchestra director and marching band assistant, said it was an honor to host the Blue Devils, and he hoped students were inspired by the new techniques they learned before heading to this year’s band camp.
