The DeKalb County Quilters Guild will host a mini quilt show at the DeKalb Area Women's Center.

The DeKalb County Quilters Guild will host “A Mini Quilt Show,” highlighting the work of DeKalb County Quilters Guild, at the DeKalb Area Women’s Center, 1021 State St. in DeKalb, on four Fridays in August.

The show will be open to the public from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 8 through 29. A reception with refreshments will be held Aug. 8. During the reception, guild members will be available to answer any questions about quilting and the guild itself. On display will be many small quilts, needlework and craft work.

This show is a teaser for the DCQG’s biannual quilt show, Harvest of Quilts 2014, on Oct. 11 and 12 at Sycamore Middle School in Sycamore.

The DeKalb County Quilters’ Guild was founded in 1979 by six women whose passion was quilts and quilting. Since then, the guild has grown to more than 100 members of all ages. Quilt lovers of all ages and quilting abilities meet the fourth Thursday of each month at the Parish Activity Center of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 322 Waterman St. in Sycamore, to learn more about quilts and quilting from local, regional, and nationally renowned specialists in the field.

Monthly meetings also include a business meeting, a show-and-tell of completed projects, and opportunities to participate in special events and exchanges. A large library of books and videos on quilting is maintained by DCQG and is available to members.

Tickets for an 85-by-100-inch raffle quilt will be available for purchase at the DAWC mini show. The quilt was made by members of the DeKalb County Quilters’ Guild in 2014. A drawing will be held at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 26, during the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival Craft and Flea Market at Sycamore High School, where the quilt will be on display. Raffle tickets also can be purchased at the Harvest of Quilts show, at the DCQG booth during Pumpkin Festival, or from any DCQG member for $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5. The proceeds from the raffle quilt support the guild and its many community service projects.
