BELVIDERE – A Machesney Park man being held on $300,000 bond for allegedly battering his girlfriend's 7-month old child faces additional charges of assault that result in permanent disability.

The Rockford Register Star reports that 22-year-old Dylan Abbott is being held in Boone County Jail. His arraignment is set for Aug. 1.

Court documents say that police were called to an apartment in Belvidere last Saturday for a baby who had fallen, and noticed bruises on the infant's face and ears while transporting the child to SwedishAmerican Hospital.

The documents say an emergency room physician told police that blunt trauma caused bleeding on the right side of the child's brain.

Abbott told police he was watching the child while the mother ran an errand, and that the child fell while playing.
