CHICAGO – An 11-year-old Chicago girl has died after being struck in the head by a stray bullet while she was at a friend's house for a sleepover.

Chicago police say the girl was shot around 9:30 p.m. Friday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the city's West Side.

Relatives say Shamiya Adams was at a sleepover with friends when she was hit.

She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery overnight.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said she was later pronounced dead.

No one was in custody Saturday morning.
