SANDWICH – Within a few days after a Sandwich man hired a 21-year-old to mow his lawn, two of his guns and a golden ring went missing, court records show.

On July 11, the man confronted Ryan D. Davis, of the 800 block of North Main Street, Sandwich, to ask him about his missing ring, Smith and Wesson revolver and Coast-to-Coast 12-gauge shotgun. Davis, who had befriended the man and showered in his home at least three times, apologized and told him he would get everything back to him, according to court records.

That same day, a car pulled into the man’s home with Davis in it. In the open trunk of the car was the shotgun, according to court records. When the man asked Davis about the other items, he told him he sold the revolver to a “gangbanger” in Aurora and denied stealing the ring, court records show.

The man called Sandwich police, who arrested Davis on Wednesday. Davis was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, which is typically punishable with probation or between three and seven years in prison.

Davis is expected to ask a judge to reduce his $25,000 bond on Monday.
