DeKalb man airlifted after crash on Malta Road

DeKALB – A DeKalb man was in serious condition Thursday after an early morning crash police said happened after he fell asleep while driving.

Jacob C. Doyle, 24, of the 1000 block of South Seventh Street in DeKalb, was driving east on Malta Road east of Lang Road shortly before 4 a.m. when he told police he fell asleep, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Doyle's vehicle crossed the road and rolled before coming to rest on its side, police said. Doyle had to be removed from the vehicle.

He was flown by Life Flight helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where a nursing supervisor said he was in serious condition.

Doyle was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use and driving without insurance.
