DeKALB – Friends of Steven Schulz are hosting a public memorial for him tonight.

Friends and family of Schulz, who died this week, will hold a candle lighting and balloon release at 8 p.m. at Hopkins Park. Marissa Jackson, a friend of Schulz's who created a Facebook page for the event, said more than 200 people have already said they plan to attend.

The event will be on the back fields at Hopkins Park near the baseball diamonds.

Schulz, 23, of DeKalb, was a 2009 Sycamore High School graduate. Authorities reported Thursday that Schulz died of a gunshot wound to the head with a weapon he legally bought about a year ago. He was last seen Sunday and was reported missing by his family Monday evening.
