ROCKFORD — A body pulled from the Rock River in Rockford has been identified as a man missing since a Fourth of July weekend boating accident.

The Rockford Register Star reports that 21-year-old Roger Pitts Jr.'s body was found in the river near Blackhawk Island on Tuesday. Illinois Conservation Police Sgt. Robert Frazier says Pitts went missing Saturday night when a canoe he was in overturned under a bridge.

Frazier says a search party of Pitts' friends and family found his body.

Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia says toxicology tests will be done on Pitts' body and results are expected in about two weeks.
