Chicago airports expect jump in July 4th travelers

CHICAGO — More than 2 million travelers are expected to pass through Chicago's airports over the July Fourth holiday weekend.

That's an increase of nearly 4 percent over last year's numbers.

The Chicago Department of Aviation says 1.6 million passengers were expected at O'Hare International Airport from Wednesday through Monday.

Officials say Monday looks to be the busiest day at O'Hare with more than 241,000 passengers expected.

Midway International Airport could see 461,000 passengers over the holiday period. The busiest day there is expected to be Sunday.

Those traveling through the two airports Thursday afternoon will be treated to live music performances. Terminals will be decorated with American flags. And some restaurants will offer free or discounted food and drinks to traveling veterans and active military personnel.
