MAPLE PARK – The Maple Park Police Department is planning a railway safety seminar for 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Maple Park Civic Center, 302 Willow St., Maple Park. In May, Parker Wolfsmith, a 14-year-old Kaneland Harter Middle School eighth-grader, died when he was hit by a train at the Liberty Street train crossing in Maple Park.

Josh Salisbury, who helps coordinate activities at the police department's weekly drop-in center, said all are welcome to attend the seminar, which will feature Jim Magner of Union Pacific. The event will be geared toward both children and parents, Salisbury said. It will last from 60 to 90 minutes.

It will take place in the village board room of the civic center. For information, contact Salisbury or Kevin Brown at 815-827-3286, or email jsalisbury@villageofmaplepark.com or kbrown@villageofmaplepark.com.
