SOMONAUK – The Somonauk Summerfest Committee announced the winner of the Summerfest T-shirt Design Contest. The winning design will be printed on T-shirts available for purchase at the annual summer celebration that will be held at Somonauk’s Community Park on South Gage Street.

The winning design was created by Samantha Hinterlong of Somonauk. This fall she will be a junior at Somonauk High School. Samantha's design is an illustration of a sound wave and music notes, which reflect this year’s Summerfest theme, “The Beat Goes On.”

Samantha learned of the design contest in her computers class. Her teacher encouraged the class to submit designs for consideration. Samantha used the Custom Ink program on her computer to create her design.

“I’ve never designed a T-shirt before, and I was really surprised when I won,” she said.

Samantha has attended the Summerfest event several times.

"My favorite part is seeing everyone, and the music is awesome,” she said.

Summerfest weekend will include a craft fair, cruise night, vintage baseball game, bean bag toss tournament, Texas Hold’em tournament, food vendors, truck pulls, kids play zone, beer tent and live music.

There will also be several health displays, including a booth from KishHealth System and eye screenings from Somonauk Lions Club. The Pink Heels will have a pink fire truck on display and will sell T-shirts to benefit breast cancer research. Heartland Blood Centers will hold a blood drive at Somonauk Village Hall, 131 S. Depot St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 26.
