SYCAMORE — Police say an 18-year-old Sycamore man was drunk when he crashed his vehicle into a tree early Saturday, leading authorities to airlift him and a passenger from the scene.

Tylor Z. Hyde was driving a 2001 Mercury Cougar when he crashed near the intersection of Home and Kishwaukee streets just after 5 a.m., according to a report released Monday by Sycamore Police.

Hyde was airlifted to the OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford but was not admitted because his injuries were not significant enough to warrant him being in the hospital, a nursing supervisorsaid Monday.

A girl was also transported to OSF St. Anthony Hospital. Sycamore police Lt. Darrell Johnson declined to reveal her name since she is a juvenile, but said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Sycamore police are still investigating the incident, including how Hyde was able to obtain alcohol. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Hyde was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and underage drinking.

A deputy at DeKalb County Jail said Hyde was not at the jail about 1:30 p.m. Monday.
