Gil and Alice Larimer are pictured on their wedding day. The summer choir at Sycamore United Methodist Church recently helped the couple celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

For about 10 years, music director Bev Rauch has offered a one-time summer choir at Sycamore United Methodist Church. It has been a fun opportunity for the adult choir to reunite over the summer, and also to welcome visitors to the group who might not be able to sing during the year. Ice cream was always involved.

The occasion became even more celebratory recently as the singers honored choir members Gil and Alice Larimer on the eve of their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple moved to Sycamore and became very active at SUMC after Gil retired from serving a variety of congregations as a Methodist minister. Alice is a retired public school teacher.  Gil has been extremely active in Habitat for Humanity as well as the church. The couple has been blessed with three children and several grandchildren.

Sycamore United Methodist, 160 Johnson Ave., offers an active music program year-round, and adult choir resumes with a welcome dinner at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20. On Sept. 6 the congregation will host a Jazz in Progress concert at 5 p.m.

For more information on any of the programs, call the church office at 815-895-9113 or visit www.sycamoreumc.org.
