WEST FRANKFORT (AP) — Police in southern Illinois' West Frankfort says a vehicle has struck and killed a 4-year-old boy.

Authorities say Logan Adams died after the accident about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police chief Shawn Talluto says Adams was among seven children on the road, and that all of them dispersed to both sides of the street when the car approached. But as the vehicle passed while traveling at 3 miles per hour, Adams went back onto the road and was hit.

The driver has not been publicly identified.

Franklin County and Illinois state authorities are assisting in the investigation.
