Pipe bursts at Chicago's Trump Tower stairwell

CHICAGO (AP) — An official at Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago says a burst pipe caused water to cascade down a garage-area stairwell.

Colm O'Callaghan says the pipe burst during the routine testing of a sprinkler system at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. He says no vehicles were damaged and there was no disruption to the hotel's operations.

He says water is no longer gushing out of the pipe and the area is being cleaned up. He says he expects the pipe to be repaired later Thursday.

The tower has attracted attention in recent weeks after 20-foot-tall letters spelling billionaire developer Donald Trump's last name were installed. Mayor Rahm Emanuel has called the sign "architecturally tasteless." Trump has defended the sign as a welcome addition to the city's skyline.
