District 424 plans to amend budget

GENOA – The Genoa-Kingston District 424 School Board will meet Monday for a public hearing on amendments to the current fiscal year's budget.

The hearing will be at 7 a.m. in the community room at Genoa-Kingston High School, 980 Park Ave., Genoa.

In the fiscal year that ends June 30, the district went over budget in three departments, totaling about $70,000, Superintendent Joe Burgess said. Officials have to amend the budget before the new fiscal year starts July 1.

The district spent roughly $20,000 more than it planned from its transportation budget because it had to buy a vehicle for special needs students; about $20,000 in tort and liability insurance; and about $30,000 in payroll for the Kishwaukee Education Consortium, Burgess said.

Spending came within one percent of expected expenditures, which Burgess said is closer than previous years where the district has had to amend the budget at the end of the fiscal year.
