The Community Bankers Association of Illinois Foundation for Community Banking has selected its 2014 Annual Scholarship Program winners.

American Midwest Bank in Sycamore announced that Erik Gommel has been named the overall winner for the state of Illinois; the bank sponsored Gommel for the contest. He has been awarded $1,000 per year for up to four years to be used for higher education beginning next fall. DeKalb High School has been awarded $500 in recognition of Gommel’s award-winning essay.

Now in its 28th year, the scholarship program offers $23,000 to 26 high school seniors via an essay‑writing contest; $500 is also awarded to the first‑place winner's high school. This year, 80 CBAI member banks representing 188 students statewide, participated in the contest.
