DeKALB – A DeKalb subsidized housing complex is changing its name from Golden Years Plaza to Taylor Street Plaza.

A ceremony unveiling the new sign will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at the facility, 507 E. Taylor St., DeKalb.

The 16-story building was erected 44 years ago as the first vertical neighborhood in the area that contained 150 apartments, according to a news release from the Housing Authority of the County of DeKalb.

The Housing Authority began a more than $3 million renovation in 2009 to preserve the facility, including adding a new security system, energy efficient windows and new roof, the release states.

The average age of residents today is 54 years old and occupancy preference is given to the elderly and disabled, the release states.
