CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago drivers can expect long delays along the Kennedy Expressway this weekend as construction begins on a bridge over one of the city's busiest roadways.
Crews began demolition of the westbound Ohio-Ontario Street Bridge to 1-90/94 over the expressway on Friday and will continue working until early Monday morning.
Illinois Department of Transportation officials are encouraging drivers to seek alternate routes or use public transportation to reach the downtown area.
The eastbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway between Chicago and Grand avenues and reversible lanes will close. Two eastbound lanes will be diverted onto the eastbound Ohio street exit. Westbound Ontario Street and entrance ramps to Augusta, Division and Jackson streets also will be closed.
Road closures will continue for the next two weekends as workers continue construction.
