Dion Hooker, Jr., Sycamore – Hooker repeats as Daily Chronicle Boys Track Athlete of the Year after finishing second in Class 2A in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200. He couldn’t repeat his state title in the 200 but improved his time from last year’s state meet. Hooker also collected sectional titles in both events.
Ben Barnes, Jr., Kaneland – Barnes was one of two Class 2A state champions on a dominant Kaneland team. After a second-place finish in the long jump at sectionals, he improved by nearly two feet to win the state title (23-05.00). The junior won at sectionals in the triple jump and was part of the 4x200 team that finished third at state.
Nate Dyer, Sr., Kaneland – Dyer was the other Knight to take home a state title, as he finished first in shot put. He also finished seventh in discus and won the sectional title in both events.
Dylan Nauert, Sr., Kaneland – After coming in second and missing out on a sectional title in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, Nauert went to the Class 2A state meet and finished third and seventh, respectively. He was also part of the Knights’ 4x400 relay that won at sectionals and finished second in the state.
Logan Schneider, Jr., Sycamore – Schneider was another hurdler who kicked it up a notch in the state meet. He followed up a third-place performance at sectionals by cutting his time down by over half a second to finish second in Class 2A. He also qualified in the 300 but missed out on the final.
