Barb Bradford pins a lapel pin on her husband, Genoa Lion Gene Bradford, at a ceremony honoring him as a Melvin Jones Fellow.

The Genoa Lions awarded Lion Gene Bradford their highest award for the service he provides to his club. Past District Governor Paul Lindstrom of Leaf River presented the Melvin Jones Fellow award on May 21.

Bradford joined the Lions in 1982, following in his father’s footsteps. He was elected president for the first time in 1988. He finished an unexpired president’s term in 1993, and was elected president again in 2007. In most of the years he wasn’t president he held a director or officer position, and has always chaired committees and fundraising projects such as Carnation Days and bingo at Genoa Days.

Bradford’s years as a grocer have made him an expert at getting the Lions the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to dinners; when desserts get too expensive, he asks his wife to whip something up.

Gene and Barb Bradford are the parents of two daughters. Gene Bradford is a Navy veteran and active member of the local VFW. He volunteers with Genoa Main Street, Meals on Wheels, and his church.
