Apple River man in serious condition after motorcycle crash

A 49-year-old Apple River man was in serious condition Sunday after crashing a motorcycle DeKalb County sheriff’s police said he wasn’t licensed to drive.

Barry Hodge, of the 8300 block of North Broadway Road, Apple River, was driving a motorcycle westbound on Route 64 east of Esmond Road at 7:21 a.m. Saturday when it left the road and overturned in the south ditch, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Hodge was flown by Lifeline helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, police said. A nursing supervisor said Hodge was in serious condition Sunday.

Sheriff’s police did not know if Hodge was wearing a helmet. He was ticketed for violation of classification because he wasn’t licensed to drive a motorcycle, police said.
