Dixon man gets 18 years in infant's death

DIXON – A Dixon man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison in the death of his infant daughter.

The Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/1owX0Gb ) that 36-year-old Charles T. George pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of aggravated battery of a child. Lee County prosecutors accused him of killing the 3-month-old baby girl in September 2010. They say she suffered skull and rib fractures when George shook her. She later died at a Rockford hospital.

George previously faced a count of first-degree murder, but it was dropped due to a technicality. He was to go to trial next month.

George also was give three years of mandatory supervision and must register as a violent offender against youth for a decade after he is released. He will receive credit for nearly four years served.
