WILMINGTON — A canoe accident on the Kankakee River has claimed the life of a 20-year-old man from Morris.

Authorities say three other men swam to shore and survived. Their canoe capsized Tuesday evening 500 yards downstream from the Des Plaines Conservation Area boat launch.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young says conservation police were called to help with the search about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. He says a boat crew from the Wilmington Fire Protection District pulled the victim's body from the water.

A recording on the Will County coroner's press line says the victim was pronounced dead after 1 a.m. Wednesday. The victim's name is being withheld while family members are notified.

Conservation police from the Department of Natural Resources are investigating the cause of the accident.
