Sycamore police to replace some cars

Published: Tuesday, June 3, 2014 10:12 p.m. CST

SYCAMORE – Sycamore police are trading in two of its squad cars for new Chevrolet Impalas and reassigning one elsewhere.

The Sycamore City Council unanimously approved a $61,959.78 bid Monday from Veto Enterprises of Sycamore for three 2014 Chevy Impalas, each worth about $20,653.

Two of the existing cars were offered in trade and the third will be reassigned to the school resource officer at Sycamore Middle School, 150 Maplewood Drive, Sycamore.

Sycamore police Chief Don Thomas said other police departments are now electing to use the Chevrolet Caprice, but his department will stick with the Impalas because they have front-wheel drive and a sturdy transmission and suspension.

The cars will be paid by using a $73,000 allocation in the city’s capital budget, city documents show.
