CHICAGO – A suburban Chicago man is accusing Tinley Park firefighters of deliberately soaking him with water because of his faith and race.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1pNuuRl ) Omar Ali has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court alleging three firefighters who saw him wearing a turban as he walked past their fire station on May 6 sprayed him, inflicting "humiliation and severe emotional distress."

Ali, who is an African-American Muslim, accuses the firefighters of a hate crime. The lawsuit states Ali later confronted the unnamed firefighters and two admitted " they sprayed the plaintiff with their water hose." The lawsuit says one firefighter "offered to apologize," and another said they were "just kidding."

The Sun-Times reports officials of the Tinley Park Fire Department did not return telephone calls Monday seeking comment.
