SYCAMORE – Jacob E. Haka and Troy D. Novey figured jumping off a roof and sliding down a tree wouldn't be that hard.

It apparently was easier for one than the other.

Police said they did it, on a dare, about 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning. They ended up breaking several limbs on the tree, injuring themselves and racking up two misdemeanor charges each. Haka, 25, of the 400 block of East Lincoln Street in Sycamore, and Novey, 36, of the 1300 block of William Street in Sycamore, jumped off a roof of Auto Meter's building on South California Street in Sycamore, police said.

Police arrived after receiving a call about two intoxicated men and found the duo, as well as a couple of limbs that had broken off the city-owned tree, Sycamore police Sgt. Rod Swartzendruber said.

Novey declined medical attention, while Haka was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said. Both men were charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to land. They each posted $150 bail and are next due in court July 3.
