MAPLE PARK – A Union Pacific railroad train hit a man about 9:31 p.m. Saturday at the North Liberty Street railroad crossing in the Kane County portion of Maple Park, authorities said.

Maple Park Police Officer Brian Carson said Sunday afternoon that the Kane County Sheriff's Office and Kane County Coroner's Office were investigating the incident.

The man, who Carson said is from outside of Maple Park but within Virgil Township, was curious to get near the train when he was hit. Carson said officers ruled out suicide as a possible cause.

"Someone was near the train and just got too close," Carson said.

Carson said no similar incidents have occurred in the area before Saturday.
