D-427 approves paving projects

SYCAMORE — Sycamore School District 427 will repave the parking lots at three elementary schools before the next academic year.

School board members approved a $213,000 bid Tuesday from Royer Asphalt Paving in DeKalb to repave the parking lots at Southeast Elementary, West Elementary and North Elementary schools.

The district will pay for the project using funds from the building site line item in the operating budget, said Kreg Wesley, district director of operations.

Work is scheduled to begin after July 1 and be complete before school begins, Wesley said.

The work will include removing sections of pavement, installing concrete curbs where necessary and, in some cases, bringing the pavement down to the gravel and then replacing the asphalt, he said.

Wesley said one of the most necessary sections in need is the bus loop at Southeast Elementary, 718 S. Locust St., Sycamore.

“You can see right away that it looks like pavement that’s failing,” Wesley said.
