Brett’s Run funds scholarships

The eighth annual Brett’s Run Genoa Days 5K Race will begin at 8:30 a.m. June 14.

The run is named for Brett Kubasiak, son of longtime Genoa-Kingston area residents Tom and Cathy Kubasiak. Brett was killed in 1997 when he was hit by a car while playing with friends. The run supports the Brett Kubasiak Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to Genoa-Kingston High School seniors. Since it began, the fund has awarded nearly $75,000 in scholarships.

The run also will celebrate the life of Tom Kubasiak, who died suddenly in 2012.

The course begins and ends at GKHS, winding through the Riverbend and Willow Glen subdivisions. The race is CARA certified. This year’s race will be chip timed by It’s Race Time Inc. Awards will be presented to male and female top finishers in several age categories.

Early registration ends June 5. During early registration, fees are $20 for individuals or $65 for groups of four. After June 5, individual registration will be $25, and there will be no group registration. Register at Tobinson’s Ace Hardware, the Genoa Fitness Center, or online at www.itsracetime.com.
