PREP ROUNDUP: T’wolves advance to regional final

Indian Creek advanced to the Class 1A Fulton Regional final with a 12-1 win over Lanark Eastland on Wednesday. The Timberwolves will play the hosts on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Chris Pickwell was the winning pitcher for Indian Creek, and went 2 for 4 with three RBIs at the plate. David Boehne went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Prairie Ridge 8, Sycamore 7 (10 inn.): The Spartans fought back to tie the game in the seventh. Michael Swanberg had three hits for Sycamore, including a home run. Cooper Vinz and Ian Kidd each had two hits and an RBI.

Colan Treml threw the first six innings for Sycamore, giving up two runs.

The Spartans are now 20-11, and have had seven one-run losses.

"We played against a good opponent. Prairie Ridge is always a good team. They had some guys over there who could play," Sycamore coach Jason Cavanaugh said. "We just need to find a way to get over the hump."

Burlington Central 11, DeKalb 3: Jared Johnson went 2 for 3 with a homer for the Barbs, while Patrick Aves went 2 for 2 and Jake Kuykendall finished 2 for 3.

The Barbs are now 13-12.

DeKalb 6, St. Charles East 5: Tayler Garland came up with a two-out, walk-off hit for the DeKalb softball team in a 6-5 win over St. Charles East.

Morgan Newport earned the win in relief for the Barbs (23-7).

Earlville 15, Indian Creek 3: The Timberwolves were eliminated from postseason play after falling at the Class 1A Serena Regional.

Genoa-Kingston 10, Harvard 1: Kendall Strack went 3 for 4 with three doubles for the Cogs in the win. Paige Keegan finished 2 for 4 with a double while Emma Jones had a double and two RBIs. Baylie Ullmark earned the win in the circle.

Sycamore 13,  Richmond-Burton 11 (6 inn.): At Sycamore, the Spartans scored six runs in the bottom of sixth and were still batting when the game was called because of lightning in the nonconference game.

"This was a really good team win after [Monday's] marathon loss," Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. "We were a little flat which was understandable after the late night but the kids mustered up enough energy to make some good things happen in the sixth. We took advantage of some mistakes in that inning and had a couple of timely hits by Rachel Reifsteck and Baylie Petit."

Petit was 4 for 4 with an RBI, Bobbieann Gable was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Jasmyne Taylor finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Lyndsey Coddington went 1 for 3 with three runs scored.

Sycamore's Nati Morey (1-0) threw three innings in relief, giving up five earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two.
