Hearing today on club’s shooting range expansion

SYCAMORE – A public hearing will be held today regarding some changes Sycamore Sportsmen and Conservation Club is proposing at its shooting range.

The club, located at 1773 W. Motel Road in Sycamore, wants to extend its canopy for the rifle and pistol range, add fencing, expand its skeet-target sheds and place windmills for pond aeration, according to a DeKalb County planning and zoning news release.

Club officials must obtain a special use permit in order to make the changes because the additions are greater than 10 percent of the area of the existing buildings, said Scott Larson, attorney for Sycamore Sportsmen and Conservation Club.

The public hearing take place at 1 p.m. Thursday in the East Conference Room of the DeKalb County Administration Building, 110 E. Sycamore St., Sycamore.

All of the changes are either safety or maintenance enhancements, Larson said.
