A fire early Wednesday caused about $20,000 in damage to a DeKalb home.

DeKALB – A back porch light sparked a fire that caused about $20,000 in damage to a DeKalb house about 1:30 a.m. today, fire officials said.

Firefighters found smoke coming from rear roof vents and soffit when they arrived at 829 S. Eighth St., according to a DeKalb Fire Department news release. They removed siding near the porch to get into the attic, and stopped the fire from spreading past the attic and exterior.

Crews, with help from Sycamore firefighters, had the fire under control within 20 minutes and remained at the home for about 2 hours and 35 minutes, the news release states.
