Published: Tuesday, May 20, 2014 4:05 p.m. CDT

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for DeKalb County, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop by early this evening across far northern Illinois, according to the NWS. Weather hazards could include thunderstorms, hail to the size of golf balls, damaging winds, isolated flash flooding and an outside chance of a tornado.

The threat looks to be at its peak along and north of Interstate 80 mainly between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m.
