HAMPTON – Authorities have recovered the body of a missing boater who drowned in the Mississippi River after his boat overturned.

The Rock Island County coroner's office says Charles W. Slocum's body was found late Friday by another boater.

The Colona man had been missing since a May 6 boating accident.

The 44-year-old was fishing with four other people when their anchor broke and their boat drifted into a dam and flipped. The other four people were rescued or swam to shore.

Family members said the discovery will give them closure.
