PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb baseball sweeps Rochelle

The DeKalb baseball team completed a Northern Illinois Big 12 East series sweep over Rochelle with a 7-1 victory Thursday at Dave Pettengell Field.

Jake Kuykendall finished 3 for 3 for the Barbs, and Noah Baert was 1 for 3 with three RBIs.

Dylan Farrell earned the win, allowing one earned run in a complete game while walking one and striking out four.

DeKalb is 12-11 and 5-10 in the NI Big 12 East.

"We've been playing better the last two weeks. Win or lose, over the last two weeks we've played a lot better," DeKalb coach Jake Howells said. "It's good to see the momentum keep going."

Morris 4, Kaneland 1: Jacob Bachio went 1 for 2 with a run scored for the Knights in a loss. Anthony Holubecki was the losing pitcher, striking out six in six innings. He falls to 4-2.

Kaneland is 14-12 and 9-6 in NI Big 12 East play.

SOFTBALL

Indian Creek 16, Hinckley-Big Rock 2: MaryKate Harrod went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored in a loss. Sydney Adams added two hits and an RBI for the Royals.

LATE WEDNESDAY

BASEBALL

Yorkville 5, Sycamore 2: The Foxes scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to get past the Spartans.

Colan Treml took the loss for Sycamore, which had only five hits.

Harvard 21, Hiawatha 1 (5 inn.): The Hawks lost a nonconference game.

SOFTBALL

Marquette 15, Hinckley-Big Rock 0 (5 inn.): At Big Rock, the Royals lost at home.
