DeKalb powers past Rochelle

DeKALB – The DeKalb batters showed off some power in a 13-3 Northern Illinois Big 12 East Division baseball win against Rochelle on Monday.

Junior Logan Haring was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while senior Josh Snead went 2 for 3 with a triple and a home run. Senior Jared Johnson also had a 3-for-3 day at the plate for the Barbs.

Austin Hop was the winning pitcher for the Barbs (10-11 overall, 3-11 NI Big 12 East.)

Indian Creek 5, Somonauk 1: At Somonauk, Chris Pickwell improved to 3-0 on the season by striking out 10 Bobcats batters in six innings, and the the Timberwolves notched a Little Ten Conference win. Lane Rissman was 1 for 3 with two RBIs for Indian Creek (13-1).

Kaneland 6, Morris 3: At Morris, Nick Stratman went 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI, but the Knights (14-10, 9-4 NI Big 12 East) fell to Morris.

Johnsburg 9, Genoa-Kingston 4: At Genoa, the Cogs were led by Mike Kuhn, who went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in a nonconference loss to the Skyhawks. Pitcher Tyler Smith went 4 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks. He took the loss despite allowing no earned runs. Smith also went 1 for 1 at the plate, was hit by a pitch and scored a run for G-K (12-9).

Yorkville 4, Sycamore 3: At Yorkville, senior Mark Skelley had two RBIs for the Spartans, first with a home run to lead off the game and later with an RBI single, but Sycamore lost the NI Big 12 East contest. Austin Jacox went 1 for 3 with a double off the right-field fence for the Spartans (20-6, 8-5). Coach Jason Cavanaugh noted that of Sycamore’s five conference losses, four have been by one-run margins.


Genoa-Kingston 12, North Boone 2: At Genoa, the Cogs picked up a Big Northern Conference East Division win. Karli Lancaste paced the offense, going 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored. Kelly Marshall also went 2 for 3, and Megan McCausland walked twice and scored two runs. Pitcher Kendyl Strack got the win as G-K improved to 15-9, 5-4 in the BNC East.

Somonauk 12, Indian Creek 1: At Somonauk, Kayla Kauffman was 1 for 2 and drove in the Timberwolves’ lone run.

Girls soccer

DeKalb 0, Kaneland 0: At Maple Park, the Barbs and Knights (13-2-2, 7-0-2 NI Big 12 East) played to scoreless draw.
