Thrift sale funds African development project

Tanzania Development Support will host its first yard sale fundraiser of 2014 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 615 N. First St., in DeKalb.

The new location offers an indoor setting with three large rooms that will be filled with an array of large and small items. Sale items include home furnishings, sporting goods, clothing, electronics, small appliances, books and vintage memorabilia.

TDS is seeking volunteers to help staff rooms and help with set-up and take-down. Volunteers with trucks or vans also are needed to transport items to the church on Thursday. To volunteer, contact Brandi Smith at

Proceeds from the sale will be used to support TDS’s mission of improving the quality of life of youth, especially girls, in the Mara region of Tanzania. For more information, visit
